The Best Historic Vacation Rentals in Downtown Charleston, SC
There's a reason Charleston consistently tops every "best places to visit" list in the country. And the best way to experience it? Not from a hotel room. From a home.

There's a reason Charleston consistently tops every "best places to visit" list in the country. The cobblestone streets, the pastel Rainbow Row facades, the piazzas draped in Spanish moss — it's a city that feels like stepping into a painting. And the best way to experience it? Not from a hotel room. From a home.

A historic vacation rental in downtown Charleston puts you inside the story. You wake up to the sound of church bells, walk to brunch on King Street, and come home to a porch that's been welcoming guests since before the Civil War. It's a different experience entirely — and it's exactly what we've built at Respite & Revelry.
What Makes a Great Historic Charleston Rental
Not all historic homes are created equal. Charleston has no shortage of old buildings, but a truly great vacation rental in the historic district balances preservation with comfort. You want the original heart pine floors and the transom windows — but you also want air conditioning that works, a kitchen you can actually cook in, and beds that don't feel like they're from the 1800s.
At Respite & Revelry, every property in our collection has been thoughtfully restored with exactly that balance in mind. We obsess over the details — the original architectural features are preserved and celebrated, while everything beneath the surface has been updated for modern comfort.
Our Collection of Downtown Charleston Historic Rentals

Our original collection, and the one that started it all. The Guesthouse properties are clustered in the heart of the historic district, steps from King Street shopping and some of Charleston's most celebrated restaurants. These homes feature classic Charleston Single architecture, spacious courtyards perfect for gathering, and wraparound piazzas where you'll want to spend every morning with your coffee. They're ideal for groups — families, friend trips, wedding weekends — who want to be in the middle of everything without sacrificing privacy or space.

A standout property that delivers grand Charleston living in one of the city's most beloved neighborhoods. The Manor is designed for larger groups who want a true estate experience — generous common spaces, beautifully appointed bedrooms, and the kind of setting that makes every evening feel like an event. Whether you're hosting a wedding weekend, a milestone birthday, or a corporate retreat, The Manor makes a statement.

Our newest collection, located on one of Charleston's most iconic streets. St. Philip Plaza offers a more boutique experience — intimate, impeccably designed, and perfectly positioned for guests who want to be walking distance from everything Charleston has to offer. These properties are ideal for couples and smaller groups seeking that perfect blend of style and location.

When to Visit Charleston
Charleston is genuinely wonderful year-round, but each season has its own character.
Spring (March through May) is peak Charleston — azaleas in bloom, perfect temperatures, the famous Festival of Houses and Gardens. Book early.
Summer (June through August) is warm and lush. The crowds thin slightly mid-week and you'll find some of the best rates of the year. Evenings on the piazza are magic.
Fall (September through November) is arguably the best kept secret in Charleston travel. Cooler temperatures, the Spoleto afterglow, and the city settling back into its own rhythms.
Christmas (December) is becoming one of our most popular booking periods. Charleston dresses up beautifully for the holidays — candlelit caroling tours, the Charleston Christmas Market, decorated piazzas and window boxes. It's genuinely enchanting.
